The life of people in Syria is scary and quite difficult. Innocent families who want to live peacefully and freely have been forced to live in constant turmoil for the past several years. Daily life for these people includes the reality of bombings that terrorize and destroy the lives and homes of the people of Syria. They have to face not knowing where their next meal is going to come from or how they are going to provide for their families each day. This terrible reality is not something that the people of Syria used to face. In fact, Syria once was a thriving location for tourists. Many people would love coming to see this beautiful country. The many heritage sites in Syria are a well known attraction for tourists as they encompass the authenticity of the country. Emad Nor Eldeen, a writer for the "Independent", remembers his love for his country and how his heart broke when he saw the destruction that had taken place in his home. He tells of how when the war first began, he was walking home from work when a bullet hit him in the knee causing him to not know if he would survive. Eldeen goes on to say that he now lives with an artificial knee and can hardly walk. To add to this tragedy, Eldeen and his family had to flee to Britain to seek protection. This is only one of the many examples of innocent people who have greatly suffered because of this war.

For the past nine years, conditions in Syria have only worsened. After war began in March 2011, the government has driven out many millions of their citizens. Due to a lack of democracy within Syria, its people made an attempt at change back in 2011 ("Syrian Civil War"). However, they did not foresee the immense damage this would cause. Not only does it seem that the Syrian government has turned on its people through daily bombings on many of the cities in the country, millions of Syrian people have fled to surrounding countries. With so many people having left, issues of where to go have caused further conflict. When the war first began, other countries tended to welcome refugees. However, the longer this war has gone on, the more difficult it has become for many countries, like Turkey, to support them financially (Karasapan). With these other countries suffering through their own economic crises, Syrian refugees are now not so easily welcomed. Another challenge that Syrian people have faced is poverty. Having limited or no access to any source of money or income is an issue for those in or out of Syria. For those who have remained in Syria, access to food and other resources is already an issue let alone if you have no money to pay for these necessities. For those who have escaped Syria, trying to provide for family and being in a new place can become an issue if there is a lack of money, on top of the already chaotic and traumatic situations these families have to endure.

Syria is known for its many historical sites that are filled with ancient history and encompass the culture of the country. It's capital, Damascus, is known for being the location of where many stories in the Bible occurred. The most remembered encounter would be when Paul converted to Christianity (GotQuestions.org). One of the most famous locations in Syria are the Dead Cities. Here people are able to see preserved settlements that go all the way back to about the 5th century (Patowary). Another notable place in Syria is the Umayyad Mosque which is located in Syria's capital, Damascus. As one of the oldest mosques in the world, the Umayyad Mosque was built in 706 (Younes). Aside from these historical locations, Syria is known for its beautiful beaches and food, which some would say is the best food in the Middle East (Taylor).
