When deciding on a topic for this research project, I immediately knew that I wanted to write about refugees. This is something that I really care about, as the fact that people are being displaced from their homes is very disheartening. As I looked into articles and talked with my parents, I discovered the terrifying crisis in Syria. I knew there was some conflict in this country, but I did not know the extent to which it was occurring. From the beginning of this process, I knew that I wanted to write about how Syrian refugees were being helped during this difficult time. The more research I did, the more I noticed that Turkey has been a key player in aiding Syrian refugees. When I first started to consider a thesis, I assumed I would write one that would lead me to explain and analyze the ways that Turkey has helped this country. I expected to discover different ways that Turkey was taking action to provide aid for the Syrian refugees in order to make this terrifying situation somewhat easier to manage. However, the more I researched, the more I came to see that Turkey was lacking in aid for these people. As I continued my research, I only found more information about how Turkey was not helping Syrian refugees. Another conflict I faced throughout my research project was that many of the sources I was finding were from several years ago because this war has been going on for quite a long time. Having to search for current information took a lot longer than I expected it to, but in the long run it enabled me to find even more information on my topic. During the process of research there was also the aspect of note cards. While writing each individual piece of information on a separate note card was a daunting and long task, it better prepared me to compose my paper. After I had all of my note cards together and organized, I started the process of writing my essay. I expected the process to be stressful, however, because I had taken the time to write my information on note cards, the process was fairly simple. Once my paper was complete, I made sure to read and reread my work many times over. Out of my perfectionism I made sure that everything was exactly as it should be. One of the most difficult parts of writing this paper was the submission because I knew the weight of what I was turning in. By the end though, I was very happy to have finished my research of this heartbreaking tragedy.
